World traveling, music loving, adventurers that we are, Sean and I made our way to Gainesville, Florida for the punk music festival at is THE FEST. Sean had always wanted to attend The Fest and as soon as we found out my brother Jordan’s band Trigger Effect had made it onto the roster, we committed to making the trip across the world for a weekend of music, friends, family and fun!
As our travel itinerary reveals below, it took us a serious amount of time to get to our final destination of Gainesville, Florida. We each had 2 flights together and 2 flights apart (since we booked our tickets separately) and essentially time-traveled over 4 time zones for 2 days in each direction.
My Uncle Terry and Aunt Sheila both happen to live in Gainesville so we were lucky to have family to visit and stay with. They were far too good to us, fed us well, gave us rides, provided entertainment and comfort. Even Pete, the chow-chow/golden retriever, was a hypo-allergenic treat to be around.
Over three days, we saw: Valient Thorr, Kylesa, High on Fire, Former Thieves, Trigger Effect, Planes Mistaken for Stars, Living with Lions, Dolarhyde, The Menzingers, 12 Hour Turn, Chris Wollard and the Ship Thieves, and Municipal Waste.
Have a look:
When the boys finally arrived on the Saturday, we kicked around the pool and caught up – I hadn’t seen Jordan in over six months and my moving to the other side of the world doesn’t allow for too many hang out situations as such. I miss him! It was totally worth the world travel to see him!
After delicious burger face stuffing, we spent some time kicking around and had a wicked jam session in Sheila & Terry’s well-equipped music room.
After jamming we hit the downtown Gainesville scene and headed to the venue where the boys were playing. Party time!
The only video I got of the show was this one – notice the burp, haha.
All this to showcase that we had a wicked-awesome time at The Fest with family and friends. Thanks to Uncle Terry and Sheila for taking us in and being such great hosts. Thanks to Trigger Effect for the show and the good times. And thanks to my love for all his help in making this whole opportunity come together and play out ever so smoothly!
