Art: Art Nouveau & Mucha

Art Nouveau has always intrigued me. Something about its intricate free flowing lines of dark ink or colourfully smooth tones has always caught my eye, drawn me in, made me feel nostalgic for its age old gentle, natural beauty.

“The essence of Art Nouveau is a line, a sinuous extended curve found in every design of this style. Art Nouveau rejected the order of straight line and right-angle in favour of a more natural movement.”

The above definition brings to light reasons why I feel drawn and compelled to Art Nouveau. Life is a line and I feel that I too reject order and right-angle in favour of more natural movement. We live in a world where this notion of freedom is difficult to live by and thus finding an art form that emanates such meaning and value can be empowering and moving.

I love Art Nouveau in its many forms.

Most of all, I love the artwork of Alfons Mucha.

One day I plan to cover portions of my upper back, upper arms and chest with a mosaic of Art Nouveau inspired pieces.
