Challenge: Fitness: NY Resolution: 1 Week Detox + Fitness Regime

IMG_0063

Just finished my first night's meal on this week's detox challenge...

A new year calls for welcome new changes and I'm yearning to kick up my fitness levels and overall well being.

Goals: - Filter system with natural foods. - Reduce consumption of artificial additives and greases. - Reduce alcohol consumption/hangovers. - Cardio: Lose 5lbs (2.5kg) - Yoga/Pilates: Build strength, dexterity, flexibility.

Diet Guidelines: - Primarily natural ingredients: fruits, vegetables, grains. - Avoid artificial additives. - Avoid greases. - Always have water or tea 'on the go'.

Fitness Efforts: - Daily ‘out of bed’ floor exercises: 3 sets of 20 situps, 10 pushups and 10 medicine ball twists. - 1 cardio/yoga effort per day: Swim, Zumba, Body Balance

Drinking rules: - No alcohol consumption. - Collect work knock-offs.

I have a feeling the diet is (surprisingly) going to be the easiest to adhere to comfortably. In the past, I managed to eat this way for a few months at a time and I remember it to be something I felt really good about taking part in. I enjoyed working around the restrictions and was always impressed with the satisfying meals I could come up with. I had lots of energy, slept well and felt good about myself.

No booze is going to be a challenge. Working in a bar often leads to being tempted to indulging in free knock-offs with ever-present revelling work peers. I enjoy the social aspect of it all and I sense that might be the hardest thing for me to walk away from. On chosen nights out, I hate to admit that it will be hard to consume lightly... I have become accustomed to going out, partying, and letting loose with others seeking similar outlets.

Enforcing fitness regimes on myself is nothing new. I have trouble hitting my goal targets (b/c I set them very high), but I'm usually good about making weekly efforts. I love the yoga/Pilates mix of Body Balance, but I need to add a cardio element if I want to be able to shed 5lbs and tone up my frame. If I reach that goal, I can then concentrate primarily on yoga to build up my core strength again. When I was previously in the physical state I’d like to work towards, I felt on top of the world, full of strength and energy. My workouts became easier to enforce as I was getting stronger and healthier.

After a week of strictly living by this detox, I plan to set another set of well being goals for myself to keep on track. If I can keep this up, and I know that I can, I know I will be able to work towards the state of fitness I really want to live in.

I want to be green, be toned and strong!
